Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults
|
 |
"RCIA" - which stands for Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults - has come to mean much more than a few rites
and sprinkles of holy water. It is arranged to be a preparation for a person's full reception into the Catholic Church,
the universal sacrament of God's saving work. As such, it is meant gradually to immerse the initiate into the living tradition
of Christian teaching, worship, life, and prayer as manifested in the Church's structures and members - the mystical Body
of Christ. Interest in the Catholic Church is not the same as a commitment to enter, and no one is ever pressured to do so.
All who wish to come to Christ do so because the Father draws them, because they have discovered, to whatever extent necessary,
that the truth of Christ really does make them free. The RCIA is meant to function as this introductory school of the freedom
of Christ.

The Catholic Parishes of the area
are sponsoring a program to prepare adults to enter the Catholic Church and receive the Sacraments of Initiation, Baptism,
Confirmation and Eucharist. It began on September 25, 2008 at St. Pamphilus Church, 948 Tropical
Avenue (off the intersection of Crane and Beechview Avenue).
We meet every Thursday
evening and the session last from 7:00 to 8:30 PM; you can enter the parish center from the lower parking lot. The first part
of the program is a period of inquiry when our faith is presented to the participants so that they can discern if this is
where God is calling them to be. We are open to welcome new members for the next few sessions. Call 412-343-0937 to register
or just come.
